about Melissa Hullman
Melissa Hullman's teaching career features appointments to the violin and viola faculty of the Peabody Institute, lecture presentations including the 2008 American String Teacher's Association National Conference, masterclasses at the Peabody Preparatory and the Music School of Delaware, and masterclasses and teacher trainings at the XXVI International Suzuki Festival in Lima, Peru, and at the upcoming International Music Festival in Bogota, Colombia. She founded and directed, with Rebecca Henry, the Peabody Chamber Camp, and has served as chair of Peabody's summer chamber music program, co-chair of Peabody’s Young People’s String Program, and as conductor of the Preparatory String Ensemble. She also served as President of the MD/DC Chapter of the American String Teachers Association, as Assistant to the Chair for the 1994 ASTA National Solo Competition, and as Chair for the 2001 MD/DC ASTA Solo Competition. A devoted teacher from a young age, as an undergraduate Ms. Hullman was a teaching assistant at the Meadowmount School and Executive Director and Chamber Music Faculty of a summer string program at the University of Michigan.
In addition to the recognition they have received at Peabody and in the community, her students have been honored to participate and serve as principal players in the Maryland All-State Orchestras, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Side-by-Side Concert, Greater Baltimore Youth Orchestras, Peabody Preparatory Young Artists Orchestra, and the Peabody Preparatory Sinfonietta.
An active chamber musician, Ms. Hullman's 2010 schedule includes performances in Baltimore; Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia; and New York. She has performed with orchestral and chamber ensembles at the Kennedy Center, Canadian Music Week, Carnegie Mellon University, the Baltimore Museum of Art, Maryland Hall for the Performing Arts, the Creative Alliance, University of Baltimore, and Old Dominion University. In addition, she has performed with Inscape Chamber Orchestra, and as a member of the Ann Arbor Symphony and the York Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Hullman holds a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from the University of Michigan, and a Master of Music in Violin Performance and Pedagogy from the Peabody Conservatory.
