Melissa Hullman: Bio
Violinist Melissa Hullman served on the faculty of the Peabody Institute for eight years. She is co-founder and former co-director of the Peabody Chamber Camp, and has served as co-chair of Peabody’s Young People’s String Program and as conductor of the Preparatory String Ensemble. A passionate teacher from a young age, as an undergraduate Ms. Hullman was a teaching assistant at the prestigious Meadowmount School and Executive Director and Chamber Music Faculty of a summer string program at the University of Michigan. Her enthusiasm for music and bringing people together led her to serve as Assistant to the Chair for the 1994 ASTA National Solo Competition, as Chair for the 2001 MD/DC ASTA Solo Competition, and as President of the MD/DC Chapter of the American String Teachers Association. In addition to the recognition they have received at Peabody and in the community, her students have been honored to participate and serve as principal players in the Maryland All-State Orchestras, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Side-by-Side Concert, Greater Baltimore Youth Orchestras, Peabody Preparatory Young Artists Orchestra, and the Peabody Preparatory Sinfonietta.
Melissa Hullman's versatility as a player has taken her from concerts as a recitalist and orchestral musician to collaborations with a kaleidoscope of musicians, including Americana songwriter Caleb Stine, Indian slide guitarist Dave Cipriani, tabla master Debu Nyack, contemporary percussionist Tatsuya Nakatani, and Carnatic singer KS Resmi. Ms. Hullman has performed as a member of the Ann Arbor Symphony and as Guest Concertmaster of the York Symphony Orchestra. Recent performances include engagements at Canadian Music Week, the Baltimore Museum of Art, Maryland Hall for the Performing Arts, the Creative Alliance, University of Baltimore, and Old Dominion University. Ms. Hullman holds a Bachelors of Music in Violin Performance from the University of Michigan, and a Masters of Music in Violin Performance and Pedagogy from the Peabody Conservatory.
